Fighting Movie Villains? I Choose You, Scott Pilgrim! 2010-08-11 | by: Ydoc Nameloc So! This is it! Today marks the end of the three part series TWIA entered into almost two full months ago. What exactly is the Movie Villain series, you ask? Well if you have yet to listen, here's the run-down. In June my co hosts and I did what we normally do and randomly generated the apocalypse of the week, and it just so happened to throw the cinematic mad-men at our feet. The normal way of dealing with the show wouldn't work in a setting that had millions of different characters to choose from and really...some of those things were too powerful for humans to really stand much of a chance. So it was ultimately decided that we would take the American Film Institute's list of the top 50 heroes and top 50 villains and pit each ranking against each other (villain number 1 would fight hero number 1). This would continue in a tournament style until one character was victorious. If that character was a hero, then humanity survives. If it was a villain...well...
In the end, this series of episodes has proven to be a fun twist on the way we normally do the show and honestly was the original concept before I decided to make it more of an apocalypse debate than a who-would-win thing. While we have more apocalypses in the list that would lend to this play-style again, we will have to wait a bit as we don't want too many episodes to not have conclusions at the end...and while we are very proud of how this batch turned out, to listen to the whole thing would take 3.5 hours. That said, please let the episodes enter into your ear holes and while I know you guys are silently out there...perhaps give us a comment and let us know what you think? Okay, So with that said, let us move on to other news. While the podcasts may be MY big part of the site, we have a staff that does other stuff around here too. On Friday, the world will see the theatrical debut of the movie "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World"! To say I am excited, would be an understatement. I rarely look forward to movies like I am looking forward to this one. What is your excitement level? Did you know it was based off of a Canadian comic book series? No!? Well, if you have yet to delve into this graphic masterpiece, then perhaps you should give Matt's review of the books a shot before you pick them up. To top off our movie-related news, my most recent quiz focuses on a little something Amby, Matt and myself have all dealt with at some point. See, we have all worked at movie rental stores (trust me, they existed once) and we would often have to determine a movie from a bunch of incredibly vague information and sound effects. Most of the time, this was impossible...but I decided to give it a try one final time. Pick your responses and see what you get. I doubt it will make sense. Also, don't forget to check out Amby's most recent quizzes. The Fairytale Quiz looks at the darker side of the stories you used to think were so cuddly, and the Pokemon Element quiz has some really unique aspects to it. Plus, I know a ton of you still dig the pocket monsters. Round ?, FIGHT! 2010-07-09 | by: Ydoc Nameloc Hey folks! I figured it was time I chimed in with another blog update as it has been a while. So what's been going on? Well I'm working on some coding to make things a bit smoother and will add a bit more polish to a few things. Also we have had some pretty awesome quizzes in the last month. You should check out the last several. However one thing I wanted to be sure to mention is that TWIA is currently cycling back and forth between styles. In episode 4, we began what will be a 3 part series on the Movie Villain apocalypse. Basically it is a big who-would-win geek debate. Round 1 went up about a month ago and round 2 will be up next Wednesday. These are a lot of fun to record and we hope you have just as much fun giving them a listen. So really...I guess this blog was just filler, but hey...I'm sorry? Blog Archive Note: Log in to your YNIN account to comment. |
