A job promotion! Moving on to college! Simply getting fed up and finding a brand new enviornment. When this works out, it works out well. However a lot of times the change is so dramatic that it usually involves completely dropping the supporting cast. While people may be familiar with the lead role, it is nearly impossible to adjust to something that is essentially a whole new ordeal. People lose interest in re-establishing the universe their favorite tale lives in and those that really enjoyed the way things were may find it hurtful to see the beautiful past ruined by injecting new trash into the canon of their story (like Scrubs...supid season 9). It really is best to just do a spin-off. If that show fails, who cares? In the case of your life, this is probably a really exciting shift and I hope you enjoy it...but lots of people back home probably just won't care what's going on. That said, they probably miss the crap out of you.
